PORTLAND, Ore. (Feb. 10, 2022) – Keith Martin, founder and publisher of Sports Car Market magazine, announced that RM Sotheby’s, a classic car auction company headquartered in Canada, has entered into a three-year partnership with Sports Car Market to support the SCM Touring Series.
RM Sotheby’s will join WeatherTech, Hagerty, Reliable Carriers and Putnam Leasing as co-sponsors of the Series, beginning in 2022 with the inaugural SCM 1000 AMG Invitational on June 19-24, and the 4th annual SCM 1000 Classic on July 17-22. The AMG Invitational will also be sponsored by The MB Market, a Mercedes-exclusive auction site.
RM Sotheby’s came on board with SCM as a first-time sponsor in 2018. “It’s indeed an honor to have RM Sotheby’s renew its sponsorship of the SCM Touring Series,” said Martin. “To have them return with additional support for the next three years is quite encouraging, and we’ll do our best to create a fun experience for them.”
Martin added that representatives from RM Sotheby’s will be participating in both tours and contributing to the “Conversations with Collectors” in the evenings – a highlight of each SCM Tour, where tour members speak openly and candidly about car collecting with experts. Open to all high-performance Mercedes, the SCM 1000 AMG Invitational is the first known event to feature AMG cars. It will be held in Bend, Oregon, in the Oregon High Desert. The entrants will also visit Crater Lake and the Painted Hills. “It will be quite a sight to see 40 high-performance Mercedes in one place,” said Martin. “These are cars that deserve to be driven through the wide-open spaces of Oregon.”
As for the SCM 1000 Classic, “it’s a celebration of motoring,” said Martin. “Participants will enjoy 1,000 miles of Oregon and Washington backroads. Our tours encourage camaraderie along with cultural and geographic immersion.” A highpoint of the event will be a sternwheeler dinner cruise on the Columbia River.
